There has been an outcry across India after Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the Champions Trophy due to injury! The general cricket fans in the country felt that all hope was lost with Bumrah's exclusion. Former off-spinner Harbhajan Singh reminded them that India won the ODI series against England 3-0 without Bumrah.
Harbhajan also said one more thing, apart from Bumrah, India is the favorite to win the Champions Trophy. Because, apart from Bumrah, India has many match-winning players in this team. Harbhajan reminded Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma that to become champions in any tournament, India must learn to play without Bumrah.
Bumrah was in the initial squad announced by coach Gambhir for the Champions Trophy. But his back injury did not allow him to recover before the start of the tournament. Due to this, India sent Bumrah for rehabilitation and replaced him with Harshit Rana.
Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel, "I still believe that India are the favourites in the Champions Trophy. Bumrah is a big force, he can win matches. But apart from Bumrah, there are many experienced players. Like Arshdeep, Shami, Kuldeep and Jadeja. India are the favourites, but they have to play like favourites."
In Bumrah's absence, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana will have to take charge of India's pace bowling department. Harbhajan believes that even though the pace bowling has lost some edge in Bumrah's absence, the strength of India's batting line-up is as strong as before.
The former India off-spinner said, "I am calling India favourites because of their ability. Rohit is back in form, Virat (Kohli) is getting runs, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer are getting runs. The batting and bowling department are performing. I think Bumrah's absence will be felt in the last few overs, especially when the opposition needs a few runs and has 2 or 3 wickets in hand. But if you want to win the tournament, you have to know how to play without Bumrah."
